Now Listening: Lisa Hannigan

So I was driving home from Columbia, MO the other day, and had a fantastic mix CD featuring such artists as (above) Lisa Hannigan,  Iron and Wine, Andrew Bird, (and his "Bowl Of Fire"), Coldplay, Greg Laswell, Wilco, and my dear sweet Ray LaMontagne. It was such a stunning compilation of artists. I think I could sell it to Starbucks as one of their tacky seasonal promo CDs. The song that stuck out most of all, was Lisa's. Her lyrics were just amazing. I had never heard her before I had complied these songs onto the CD. So I figured I'd let you read, and appreciate.

I don't know what you smoke or what countries you've been to if you speak any other languages other than your own but I'd like to meet you I don't know if you drive if you love the ground beneath you I don't know if you write letters or panic on the phone still I'd like to call you all the same, if you want to, I am game.

I don't know if you can swim or if the sea has any draw for you if you're better in the morning or when the sun goes down I'd like to talk to you I don't know if you can dance if the thought ever occurred to you if you eat what you've been given or push it round your plate still I'd like to cook for you all the same, I would want to, I am game,

If you walk my way and I could keep my head we could creep away in the dark or maybe not, we could shoot it down anyway.

I don't know if you read novels or the magazines if you love the hand that feeds you I assume that your heart's been bruised I know I'd like to know you you don't know if I can draw at all or what records I am into if I sleep like a spoon or rarely at all or maybe you would do? maybe you would do

if I walk your way I will keep my head we will feel our way through the dark though I don't know you I think that I would do I don't fall easy at all

Now Listening: Greg Laswell

I have finally been able to get an email through to The Chapel people. With a bit trouble, the email address that I was given to get in contact with Scott James seems to be the wrong one. But alas, I found an email address to get in touch about booking a show, so hopefully sooner than later I will have some feed back, and more information for you folks! Excited! =D

Also, I'm on the road to finding new additions to my music production! Grabbing onto a few more musical souls, with unique talents is the key as of right now. I seem to have an aspiring bass player with a broad vision, and a lot of talent, and a fresh out look. There is a large amount of smiling going on! If you stumble upon this site, or one of my other sites, and are interested in playing along with me, please feel free to get in contact!

New lyrics, no melody yet, which is always a wonderful random occurrence.

"Now I'll sit here in my rocking chair,
Smoking a cigar,
wonderin' to myself where you are,
oh where'd ya go?
You think I miss you so?

Please believe that we had something good,
I loved it for a minute,
but just like a river,
we flow on,
to places we better belong.

A puff or two,
and my thoughts of you,
drift to something new,
compassion never fit me well,
but change sure is swell.

Blades of grass stain
our blue blue jeans
stand up next to me
with drums in our fists
and words in our throats
oh ain't change swell?

Life is a funny thing,
oh so young,
I feel so old,
where do you fit in now,
are you out there on your own?

Ratchet turns,
Once cranked my heart,
Never more,
it needs no more help,
for it to start.

Blades of grass stain,
our blue blue jeans.
With bass in our chest,
and chords spilling out,
oh ain't change a thing of hell?

We fold our jeans,
We burn our words,
Retire the night,
A new day comes,
Oh change, I know you well."

Now Listening: Iron and Wine

The show went great, and it is thanks to the people who showed up! The line up switched the night before, and my set was shortened do to the amount of bands who ended up actually coming at load in. Which is refreshing when dealing with Afton. I also got considerably ripped off, but who cares. There are plenty an artist who hasn't even been payed for there music, so who am I to complain. I'll take what I can and be grateful. So over all, I had a great time, and enjoyed playing a new song for a great group of people.

I also rekindled an almost burned out flame with Chris Brown from Aphotic Twilight. A couple of months ago we became friends on the MySpace, and had a couple chats about their need of a vocalist. For some reason or another the discussions died out. Well AT was on the bill with me at Cicero's this weekend. And it was great to open for them, and get to see them live. Even better is the fact that we got to chatting again, and conversation of me coming to a practice and seeing how my voice fit with their sound came up. I'm really hoping something will come of it. They are a fantastic group with so much potential, plus they are a blast to watch! I'm supposed to go down to SIUE next Tuesday to visit, and sing with him a bit. And that should be great! So excitement there!

I am in the midst of a new song. The title is still under construction, along with the finishing up of the structure, and lyrics of it. But any progress I make I will let you know.

Also, the recording has been at a stand still. My connection with Mr. Cottrell has died out quite a bit. I just want to get an EP out to you all so bad! I also still do not know what I would put on it. So much confusion and frustration goes along with my feelings toward my standings on this. But I'm sure in time I will be able to come up with a solution. I just need cheep, good quality recording, no nonsense. No extras. Also the need for copyrighting the songs is coming near.

I had a conversation with a fan the other day. He has said his brother wants to play bass for me, and maybe a little guitar. I will never turn down an opportunity to share music with others, so I said that sounded great. Later that evening I got a call that troubled me in more than one way. His younger brother had "learned all my chords, and had a lot of ideas", but also said that my songs were "kind of boring" "generalized four chord songs" "with nice catchy melodies". But not to worry, his brother had come up with some things to add that only a "real musician could fully appreciate". It's always lovely to know the songs you have the least confidence in our the ones "real musicians" find "boring", I know they are catchy, and that is why I am hesitant to play them, however another collective seems to enjoy those "catchy melodies" when I play them. Confirmation of your doubts is always such a disheartening feeling. The next time I get a bill, I will be sure to have a new grouping of songs which contains music that maybe a couple "real musicians" can appreciate, including myself. Because believe it or not, I'm not such a big fan of my "catchy" tunes. They never seem to please me in the way music that comes from something deep does. So for your listening pleasure (if you are a real musician) or displeasure (if you like what I do right now) I will try and record a few newbies that are a little more deep. I'd love feed back!

Now Listening: Vega 4/ We The Living

One day left! And it is show time! I have the whole line up planned out:

1) Starlight- Cover of Muse
2) Sailor's Sonata
3) Closest To Perfect
4) Lessons
5) NEW SONG- Debut at the show

Also, NEW VIDEO up! On MySpace, and YouTube. Cover of Bob's Three Little Birds. I'm not sure what took me over to learn it tonight, maybe it's the stress of life lately. I just needed to tell myself that every little thing will be alright. And it was so much fun to do, and it felt great to be singing the words of a man who really had things figured out. =D

Drumroll please!!! The MySpace layout is VERY close to being finished! I have taken a look, and it is AMAZING! Jason has done an amazing job. Some things needed to be edited so they can be put online and used. Aka, he needs to play with the CSS, and HTML until it's all figured out.

Also, I had an interview with Marcus (from the school newspaper today) and it went very well. I had the ever elusive "What genre do you consider yourself?" question. And had to flat out tell him that I have trouble classifying other musicians into genres, let alone my music. He liked the term "Dark Pop", and I thought it wasn't bad myself. So we went with that, and the good old MySpace: Acoustic/ElectroAcoustic/Lyrical.

Email is being written to Scott James with his correct email address, about being booked at the Chapel somtime. Which if you haven't looked at yet, is such a cool organization. Completely non-profit based, so that the artist can get the money, and get on their feet.

GO HERE ==> chapel-venue.org

So a great big day for me! Lots done, and lots to look forward to!

Now Listening: Ray LaMontagne/ Now Watching: Law And Order SVU

Only 4 more days until the show! And I sure am excited! The CD process is moving very slow, many technical difficulties. But I will have some by the show! "My word is my bond"-Peter Banning (Hook). And also the photo up above is my new flyer that I will be handing out at the show!

Layout update from Jason is that things are going smoothly, but the page isn't ready present to the public. So soon people, soon!

I hope to see you all at the show! And I hope to get you all the DEMO! =D

Now Listening: The Avalanches

So there you go! One of the pictures from the set that will be up on the new layout! All of the pictures were shot at Pelican Bay by Devon Mueller! I would put all of them up, but what's the fun in ruining a great surprise! So the rest of the pictures will be up sooner than later. Jason has done some amazing things so fast, so I expect this process won't take very long!!!

Now Listening: J Minus: Another Sunday Evening

I am obsessed with this group, it's like crack for the ears. Can't explain it. =D

News News!!! I met someone new! His name is Marcus, and I think he is going to be a great friend to Katherine Zachary.  He works for my school's paper, and will be writing an article! It will entail all of my links to my sites, a review of the show at Cicero's on the 21st, and personal interview. So some great publicity. He also has talked to "Tim" from the school radio station, who is going to be getting me some radio play! First I just have to pick a song I want to make sound perfect enough to go on the radio. Any thoughts? Marcus also has connections with a recording studio, so hopefully, I will jump back on that EP deal!

Soon to come DEMO Cd by the way, it will definitely be done by the show! so come pick up your copy, and see a great show!

Now Listening: Trading Voices/ J Minus

Seriously you guys, if you haven't checked out J Minus, go do it NOW. Their fabulous, and while you're at it, look up Trading Voices, another project of Dylan Fant's, including Taylour Chanel on the vocals. Really great stuff. I can't say it enough.

New new lyrics are in the process of being written, and I wish I could share them, but the song will be debuted at my show the 21st. So come and check it out, it's probably one of my favorite songs yet far! =D

Now Listening: J Minus/Via Dove

Okay, so I know this is two in one day, but I thought I needed to share this group with you. J Minus. Love them. Take some time to check them out, give them an add and drop them a comment. And also, Via Dove. AMAZING. I can't stop filling my ears with their beautiful sounds. Enjoy, it's a tasty treat for your ear drums.

Now Listening: One Republic

Hey all. It's been a while. I have some good and bad news. First let's get the bad out of the way.
My photo shoot has been postponed. It will be rescheduled soon. And soon I should have a little bit different layout, so that will be nice. Good news is, I have two new songs! I figured I'd give you all a little hint fr at least one of them, so I left you lyrics from the song titled Sailor's Sonata:

There once was a sailor who sang a sad song,
And sometimes I'd find myself singing along.
We'd carry our cargo into the bay,
And fall asleep to the ship's gentle sway.

We sailed for so many miles and traveled oh so far,
Into an ocean of forgetting who you are.
You didn't need much but a song in you throat,
To keep yourself living alone on that boat.

And the song,
The song we liked to sing went:

My Bonnie doesn't live across the sea,
But she's still a hundred miles away from me.
I call her, call her every night,
Cause I feel her there in the moon light.

One day we made port in a town near by home,
So we took the day off to see who we'd know.
But when I came back the sailor sat alone,
He had no one to call his own.

I asked if I could hear his story,
And he went on to tell me in all of his glory.

And the tale,
The tale went something like this:

My Bonnie doesn't live across the sea,
But she's still a hundred miles away from me.
I call her, call her every night,
Cause I feel her there in the moon light.

One day I found love and I left the crew,
But I never forgot the sailor who knew,
That love means more than anything else,
And to never let go of love, or one's self.

Now Listening: Tokyo Police Club/Norah Jones/Radiohead/Bierut

Meeting with Meagan today, went great!!! She had a million and five great ideas, and I am so stoked to get these pictures up for you all to see! And soon put them on fliers, so you can have them forever and always!

The concert is coming up, and it's time to start getting some tickets in hands! I cant wait for this show, I am much more excited than I was last time. I think good things will come. And hopefully I'll get to meet even more great people!

Also, there is a new video up on MySpace since my GarageBand was extra crappy today, so I couldn't get a song up on the player, but I got one up on my videos. It's called Lessons. It's so old, I found the lyrics and chords in a note book, and played around with it some, and fell back in love it. I thought I'd post the lyrics up here for you:

How is it that I never get out what I wanna say?
I try to figure out who I am everyday.
I'm so lost, so confused without you.
I'm so far gone I don't even know who I'm writing to.

So far gone.
For oh so long.
I'm so far gone.

How is it I can write for hours, and never get a word out?
I try to speak what's on my mind, but my tongue's too blind.
I scream myself to silence every night.
I can't cry, I don't care, get it right.

My morals are gone.
You try and tell me that I'm wrong.
I don't think that you belong here anymore,
Get it right, here I'll show you to the door.

My morals are gone.
You say I am wrong.
I don't think you belong here anymore,
Get it right, here I'll show you to the door.

So I hope you guys can take 3 minutes and 29 seconds out of your day and check it out!

Now Watching: Will & Grace

Today is the day you take a deep breath, and promise yourself, all of the problems will all seem trivial. And if that doesn't work just think of all the happy things, that can cover up the bad ones.
Like for instance, how I have set up a meeting with Meagan for tomorrow afternoon. I'm so excited! She said she's got a lot of ideas, so hopefully good things will come! OUr date for the shoot is Feb 14, the day of LOVE, so inevitably you'll all LOVE the pictures!

I get up tomorrow early bird style to make sure you have a new song to listen to! We'll see what ends up on the MySpace!

Now Listening: Muse/ Once

What a day. My trip back from Columbia was a quick one, but left me lots of time to think about many things. I feel that keeping my options open for a while is the best method to this whole business. I want to rush everything, and dive right in, but that is just my nature. I need to slow down and think of what will be most frugal, and lucrative. Also, what is just plain best for me? I need time to think, and ask questions. So I am going to take my time, and try and learn as much as I can, so I can be wise rather than rash.

I've made contact with one of the gents from We The Living, who has directed me to a very talented photographer, and web layout designer. Hopefully this will result in either more knowledge, or a new layout! Which ever is just gravy with me.

Meagan McCaughan will be doing a little photo-shoot with me sometime in the near future, hopefully in the current month, so I will make updates on when that is taking place, and hopefully have some pictures to share very soon!

Now Listening: The Shins/ My Morning Jacket

A day late... Oh so sorry. Well update on the deposit: There was no money passed between hands. Me and the elusive Evan bumped paths a few times during my visit to Columbia, and he lacked a certain interest in actually getting his money. I tried hinting at him where I was staying to see if he'd like to meet up, and have me put the 250 in his hands, but he seemed dumbfounded when I mentioned the money being in the building next door. Oh well, maybe it is a sign that this partnership is not meant to be. There are more than a couple signs leading me to believe that I should keep looking for other options. But not all the news is bad news! I have a new page on facebook for you to visit! Here is the link:

file:///Users/katielindhorst/Desktop/www.facebook.com:.webloc

I hope you add yourself as a friend and drop a comment or two!

I will be going back to good old Saint Louis tomorrow, and hope to have another song up by the weekend, though the goal is by Wednesday night, or Thursday afternoon. I will keep you updated!
